Last week Stephen Tulloch, Detroit Lions, made a great play in sacking Denver quarterback, Tim Tebow. If that had been the end of the play it would have been forgotten. It was just another good play by an NFL player on Sunday. It is what Stephen Tulloch did afterwards that has caused such an uproar among people. He mocked Tim Tebow in front of the entire crowd in Denver. He went into a prayer pose that has been seen throughout the sport's world.

I know that football players mock each other on the field. I played in high school and I played a year of rugby in college. The mocking on the field does not bother me because it comes with the territory. What bothers me is the constant attacks on Tim Tebow. It has reach such a point that even major newspapers are wondering about the constant attack on this young man. Jen Floyd Engel wrote today in the Daily about the attacks on Tim. Jen finally says at the end of his article, "Tim is just a guy with good sense to say thanks. Instead of taking his cue, we mock his faith."

Why the mocking? It seems to me the world really does not like a good man. Tim Tebow is just a young man who takes his faith seriously. He lives a good life, he treats people well, and he plays football as well as anyone has every played the game. He does not force his faith down anyones throat, but shares with people who are interested in knowing what makes him tick. He helps others who are in need of help. I had a young lady in my church who spent three weeks in the Philippines working with the Tebow organization in helping the poor.

The problem is not Tim Tebow. The problem is that very few measure up to the goodness that we see in this young man. So the best way to deal with this problem is to tear him down so that we can feel better about ourselves. The trouble is that in tearing Tebow down does not improve who you are. It just reveals that you are not as good a man as he is.

I have been in the ministry for over 35 years and I have seen many Tim Tebows. They are real (nothing fake about them). They have a faith in Jesus Christ and they take it seriously. They are discipline in their lives and they work hard at their skills. They treat everyone they come in contact with kindness and patience. And if you asked them about the reason why they live the way they do, they will tell you it is because of their faith in Jesus Christ.

As we move into the Thanksgiving season, may I suggest that more of us should spend time tebowing. In our day, we need more men and women who are thankful to God for the many blessings that he has given to us. And don't worry about the mockers, they are just unhappy people who cannot measure up in life. And they will stand before God on judgment day and give an account of their lives.

Stephen Tulloch meant to mock Tim Tebow  last Sunday, but he just reminded me, good men pray and give God thanks for his grace and mercy in their lives.

Now how about some tebowing today!
