Our annual Agape Banquet is May 13, 2010 at TriPoint (McAllister Freeway). This year we have two guest speakers coming to San Antonio to speak to us. We have David Bereit and Abby Johnson.
David Bereit became an outspoken pro-life advocate after Planned Parenthood announced plans to build an abortion clinic in his Texas town in 1998. He helped to start and build a local grassroots coalition that rallied 60 churches and thousands of people together and dramatically reduced abortions in the region. Planned Parenthood recognized the effectiveness of David's efforts when it labeled his town "the most anti-choice place in the nation." David led the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign in College Station, Texas.
David moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 2005 where he served as executive director of American Life League and national director of Stop Planned Parenthood until being asked to lead the national 40 Days for Life campaign. His pro-life work has been featured in the media hundreds of times, including coverage on Fox News, HBO, ABC, NBC and CBS television stations, numerous radio programs, and in over 100 newspapers across the country including USA Today, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times.
David and his wife Margaret have two children, Claire and Patrick.
Abby Johnson is a Former Director of a Planned Parenthood.
Johnson worked at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas, for nine years, first as a volunteer and then as the director. Her duties included running the family planning and abortion programs. The clinic performed abortions two days a month.
Although she had seen ultrasounds before, including during her own pregnancy, Johnson said she had never seen an ultrasound image during an abortion. She is unclear why, as the director of the clinic, she was asked to be in the procedure room on that day, because it was not a normal part of her duties. Still, Johnson said, the experience changed her forever. "I just thought, 'What am I doing?'" she said. "And then I thought, 'Never again.'" She now speaks to Pro-Life groups around America.
We have a very special night planned on May 13, make plans to join us for our annual Agape Banquet.
